The Open Depot is a space for storage and preservation of museum holdings. The “Museum Underworld ” in which we collect, preserve and research cultural and historical heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina is available for curators, conservators and restorers. The History Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina opens its doors to the collection of three-dimensional objects to visitors in order to to show the present challenges and importance of museum practices.
The museum’s storerooms were filled with content during certain periods and these collections changed in turn with the museum. The museum was founded in 1945 with the aim to preserve, collect, protect, present and promote the achievements of the national liberation struggle and the legacy of World War II, and was formerly known as the Museum of the Revolution of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In 1993 it was renamed the History Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which extended the scope of the institution to other historical periods. However, collections of the Museum of the Revolution of Bosnia and Herzegovina, collected and studied for more than 45 years, now seek for new insight and analysis in the context of museum practices, and in the context of historiography. Open Depot is an open and unfinished story about the activities, organizations and social roles of the Museum of the Revolution of Bosnia and Herzegovina, told through objects from the Second World War and objects from country’s the period of socialism.
