Proceedings of the History Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina 16

Facts and Artifacts

Issue theme:
Photography as a Historical Source and a Museological Tool

Between fact and artifact, photography occupies a unique place. It simultaneously documents
and shapes reality, bears witness and interprets, captures a moment—but also influences how
we remember it. Photography can be evidence, but also a construction; a trace of the past, but
also a means of its interpretation.

The new issue of the Proceedings of the History Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina is
dedicated to photography as a historical source and a museological tool. The focus is on the
role of photography in researching the past, building a culture of memory, and contemporary
museum practices.

We invite researchers, curators, historians, theorists, artists, and cultural workers to reflect on
photography as a medium of knowledge, memory, and interpretation through various
disciplines and approaches.
