The work “Uprising” by Nandor Glid was part of the permanent exhibition of the Museum of Revolution in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Nandor Glid was an artist of Jewish origin, and his family was killed during World War II. He joined the Partisans, and in 1945, he began his artistic education. The Holocaust is a prevalent theme in many of Nandor Glid’s works. He is known for creating monuments in Yugoslavia, particularly famous for the monuments in the concentration camps of Mauthausen and Dachau. The work “Uprising” was created in 1966. The installation is made from various weapons and tools, and over time, it has become one of the symbols of the museum. During the siege of Sarajevo, the installation, often referred to as the “hedgehog” by employees and the audience, along with other elements of the permanent exhibition on World War II, was moved to the basement to protect it from wartime destruction.
